Staff profile: Tim Zeko

For Tim Zeko there is no such thing as a typical day.

As executive producer of WKAR-TV, Zeko is responsible for the staff that creates local, state-wide and national content on the station. He helps with the production of three series: "QuizBusters," "Off the Record" and "Backstage Pass."

Zeko, an MSU alum, started at WKAR one year after graduation as a production assistant. He has since worked his way up through the production and programming departments, holding positions such as director and producer and finally executive producer.

On a given day, Zeko is responsible for anything that needs to be done in the creation of content. He might be completing managerial tasks on the phone or computer, or be in the studio or on location – producing, directing, even running a camera.

"The best part of my job is being able to create great content featuring stories about Michigan people, places and things," Zeko said. "In order to do that, we rely heavily on our WKAR staff, and the MSU students who work with us."

Zeko works with over two dozen students and WKAR staff on the production of "Backstage Pass," a nationally broadcasted series. Students function in every position from camera operation to working as producers, learning from Zeko.

"We could not do what we do without our involvement with students," Zeko said.
