EAST LANSING, Mich. – River North Chicago Dance returns to Wharton Center’s Cobb Great Hall 7:30 p.m. March 31. In celebration of the 85th anniversary of the birth of Miles Davis, the legendary jazz musician, Wharton Center for Performing Arts has co-commissioned, along with the Auditorium Theater of Roosevelt University, RNCDC to create a world premiere set to original Miles Davis recordings. This collection of dances demonstrates the fluidity, technical brilliance and storytelling narrative ability of his body of work. The music will span Davis’ vast, varied repertoire and highlight the breadth of his development and career as a jazz artist. The piece is conceived, directed and choreographed by RNCDC Artistic Director Frank Chaves.

Founded in 1989 by four visionary dancers/choreographers, River North Chicago Dance Company has established itself as one of Chicago’s leading dance companies, receiving critical acclaim on a national and international level. Under the direction of Artistic Director Frank Chaves, the jazz-based contemporary company embodies a true flavor of “Americana” in their dynamic repertoire. The core works developed by Chaves, along with an array of pieces by nationally and internationally renowned choreographers, construct the varied, eclectic and powerful repertoire that River North Chicago possesses.
River North Dance Chicago was last at Wharton Center in April, 2005 to unveil the world premiere dance commission Habaneras, the Music of Cuba. The commission celebrates Artistic Director and Choreographer Frank Chaves’ Cuban heritage.
