Open houses scheduled to review MSU Master Plan

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Beginning this month, Michigan State University will host a series of informational meetings designed to generate input on the university’s Campus Master Plan.

The first of these open houses will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 31, and Friday, April 1, in the Spartan Rooms of the MSU International Center.

The master plan is the document that provides a long-term organizational framework for MSU’s 2,100-acre developed campus north of Mount Hope Road.

“The Campus Master Plan provides a framework for how the campus should grow if and when future development occurs,” said Stephen Troost of MSU Campus Planning and Administration.

The open houses will allow the university community and the general public to review the existing Campus Master Plan, preliminary update proposals, and to provide input through informal discussions.

Specific topics will include programmatic priorities (academic and research), future building opportunities, open space, non-motorized circulation, motorized circulation, utilities and infrastructure, and environmental sustainability and energy management.

There will be another round of open houses in the fall. These events are in preparation for the MSU Board of Trustees to review the Campus Master Plan Update in October and to act on its final recommendations in December of 2011.

The Campus Master Plan is reviewed and updated every five years.

The current plan is available for review online at www.cpa.msu.edu.
