MSU to attempt to make world’s longest taco line

EAST LANSING, Mich. — History could be made this Friday at the annual Izzone Campout at Michigan State University’s Munn Field.

During the event, staff from MSU Culinary Services will attempt to make the world’s longest line of tacos, with 600 six-inch tacos made of MSU-produced ingredients in the shape of a block “S.”

The tacos will feature ingredients grown, raised and produced on campus, including produce from the MSU Student Organic Farm, campus-raised beef as part of the Michigan Beef Pilot Program, MSU Dairy Store cheese and freshly pressed tortillas from Brody Square dining hall.

Assembly of the 600 interlocking six-inch tacos will begin at 4 p.m. and MSU Culinary Services staff will then serve its world-record breaking tacos to students at 5 p.m.

“The current world record for longest taco line is 260 – MSU’s will be more than twice that,” said Kurt Kwiatkowski, corporate chef for MSU Culinary Services. “Spartans are known to go on to do great things – with our world’s longest taco, they’ll also go on to eat great things.”

The Izzone Campout is a 24-hour event that takes place on Munn Field every fall for members of the student cheering section. During the campout, Izzone members take part in a number of activities as they prepare for the upcoming MSU basketball season. Head coach Tom Izzo and members of the team also are on hand to meet the students.

MSU Culinary Services is a department of the Division of Residential and Hospitality Services. For more information on MSU Culinary Services, visit www.eatatstate.com.
