EAST LANSING, Mich. — Yimin Xiao, professor of statistics, has been named a fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics in recognition of demonstrated distinction in research in the field of statistics and probability.
Xiao will be recognized and presented with a plaque during a ceremony at the 2011 Joint Statistical Meetings on Aug. 1.
The Institute of Mathematical Statistics is an international professional and scholarly society devoted to the development, dissemination and application of statistics and probability. According to its website, the institute has about 4,500 members worldwide.
