Twelve honored by Michigan State Alumni Association

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Twelve individuals have been recognized by Michigan State University for their achievements and contributions to local communities, states and the nation.

Distinguished Alumni Awards are presented to alumni who have demonstrated outstanding volunteer service and have achieved the highest level of professional accomplishment.

The awards are presented by the MSU Alumni Association annually as part of MSU’s Homecoming celebration.

This year’s honorees are:

  • Wilson “Bill” Livingood, Alexandria, Va., sergeant at arms, U.S. House of Representatives.
  • Craig Murray, Burbank, Calif., chief executive officer, Craig Murray Productions, LLC.
  • Linda Chapman Stone, Columbus, Ohio, former associate dean for student affairs at the Ohio State University College of Medicine.
  • Kiat W. Tan, Singapore, adviser to National Parks Board.


ALUMNI SERVICE AWARDS

These awards are granted to alumni who have demonstrated continuing outstanding volunteer service to MSU and /or meritorious public service on a local, state, national or international level. The recipients are:

  • David Havrilla, Okemos, retired All-State Insurance agent.
  • George Rock, Cadillac, retired, research, patent and business development, Dow Chemical Co.


PHILANTHROPIST AWARD
 
These awards are presented to an individual, family, association, corporation or foundation with a proven record of providing major, ongoing financial support and leadership to MSU. The recipients are:

  • Marcie Schalon and Ed Schalon (posthumously), St. Joseph, retired social worker.
  • Michael Serling, Orchard Lake, president, Michael B. Serling P.C.


DISTINGUISHED YOUNG ALUMNI AWARD

This award is granted to candidates who have distinguished themselves by obtaining a high level of professional accomplishment and who possess high standards of integrity and character to positively reflect and enhance the prestige of Michigan State University.  The honorees are:

  • Monica Braman, Maryland Heights, Mo., systems and test engineer, Proprietary Programs, The Boeing Co.
  • Manpreet Kaur Singh, Menlo Park, Calif., doctor and assistant professor, Stanford University School of Medicine.


HONORARY ALUMNI AWARD

These awards, similar to the Distinguished Alumni Awards, are presented to friends of MSU. The recipients are:

  • William Lazer, East Lansing, MSU professor emeritus.
  • Angelo Oricchio, Haslett, chief executive officer, Paramount Coffee Co.
