EAST LANSING, Mich -- For those new to campus or looking to cheer the loudest at the Sept. 4 opening game day, sheet music for the "MSU Fight Song" and "MSU Shadows" can be accessed on the College of Music's website.
One of the most common questions freshman and non-native MSU visitors have is, "What are the lyrics for game day fight songs?" So now, with a click, Web visitors can review — and print — the score for both songs.
Fans have loved the pieces since 1915, when MSU first introduced its fight song. It was written by engineering student Francis Irving Lankey, when the university was known as Michigan Agriculture College. Some changes have been made over the years, but the same melody has stayed, from an early 20th Century hymn called, "Stand up, stand up for Jesus."
To learn the songs proudly chanted by students and alumni for every sporting event, scroll to the bottom of the College of Music website and click on the Block S and Beaumont Tower logos located beneath the Facebook and Twitter icons.
