Osteopathic alumni recognized for contributions

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Two distinguished alumni of the College of Osteopathic Medicine were recognized recently at the annual American Osteopathic Association convention with two of the college's most prestigious awards.

Stephen M. Swetech, a family practitioner from Clinton Township, received the Dean's Award for Meritorious Contribution. Paul Edward LaCasse, president and chief executive officer of Botsford Health Care in Farmington Hills, received the Distinguished Alumni Award.

Swetech was named the 2010 "Physician of the Year" by the Michigan Association of Osteopathic Family Physicians. He is certified in family practice, geriatric medicine, preventive medicine, and basic and cardiac advanced life support. A 1986 alumnus of the college, he has served as an assistant clinical professor of family medicine since 1995 and was appointed to the board of the college's Alumni Association in 2007.

A fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians, LaCasse began his work at Botsford Hospital as an emergency department physician in 1979 and was named medical director, vice president and chief medical officer, executive vice president and chief operating officer before being named president in 2005. LaCasse, a clinical assistant professor of internal medicine at the college, is a recipient of the college's Walter F. Patenge Medal of Public Service.
