EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State University and the Union of Nontenure-track Faculty/AFT, AFL-CIO, have ratified a new four-year agreement that sets the terms for wages, benefits and appointment processes for about 600 term-limited faculty members at MSU.
“This agreement was the result of a lot of hard work on the part of everyone involved,” said Theodore Curry, associate provost and associate vice president for academic human resources. “It represents a true effort to collaboratively address the needs of an important segment of the university community while also respecting the difficult economic realities currently faced by the university as whole.”
Negotiations between MSU and UNTF occurred between February and May 2010 and resulted in an agreement that will become effective retroactively to May 16, 2010, and remain in effect until May 15, 2014.
“After a negotiation process that involved more than 1,000 man-hours, the teams were able to craft an agreement that we feel represents the needs of UNTF members,” said Penny Gardner, UNTF president. “We are pleased with the agreement that was achieved.”
