Kellogg Bird Sanctuary, part of Michigan State University’s Kellogg Biological Station, is home to about 100 captive birds and serves as habitat for countless wild birds. The land for the sanctuary was purchased in 1927 by W.K. Kellogg. He recognized the need for a protected place for Canada geese to breed. At that time Canada geese were struggling because of loss of habitat and over hunting.
Today visitors can enjoy walking the mile-long paved loop and watching birds living on Wintergreen Lake and captive birds of prey and upland game birds in the Tassell Pen. The Sanctuary has a rich history but continues to grow and change to meet the needs of MSU, the community and the birds that call the sanctuary home.
RSVPs are appreciated by not necessary. E-mail birdsanctuary@kbs.msu.edu or call 269-671-2510.
