Maiti named Fellow of American Statistical Association

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State University statistics and probability professor Tapabrata Maiti has been named a Fellow of the American Statistical Association.

Maiti is graduate director for MSU's Department of Statistics and Probability, and his research focuses on application-driven methodology development. It involves small area estimation, sampling, multilevel modeling, biostatistics, missing value analysis and social and environmental statistics.

ASA Fellows are recognized for their outstanding contributions to statistical work. The number of fellows is limited to no more than one-third of one percent of the ASA membership. The award will be presented at the ASA Joint Statistical Meetings July 31 through Aug. 5 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Maiti earned his degrees from Kalyani University, India, and served as a research fellow at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research in India. Prior to joining the MSU faculty, Maiti held faculty positions at Iowa State University and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
