Faculty conversations: Franklin Boster

When the fall semester began, Franklin Boster, professor in the Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders, assumed the position of acting chairperson for the department.

“I really have two interests in the academic world,” said Boster. “One is social influence and the other is in group dynamics. I’ve pursued a lot of different things with respect to persuasion and research dynamics.”

Boster teaches classes about social influence, compliance gaining and persuasion as well as classes on statistics and research methods.

Outside MSU, Boster works with marketing and research and educational firms. He has worked with companies to research their advertising messages to help them  better reach their target audiences.

In regards to his position as acting chairperson, Boster said, “It’s a great group of people here. They have a couple of exceptional young faculty members who have been excellent to work with and we look forward to moving our graduate program forward in a very significant way.”
