EAST LANSING, Mich. - The critically acclaimed Bayanihan (Bi-Uh-Nee-Hahn), the National Dance Company of the Philippines, is making its premiere visit to Wharton Center's Pasant Theatre 7:30 p.m. Nov. 4.
Considered a national treasure of the Philippines, Bayanihan offers extraordinary beauty and graceful dancers to the music of their exotic islands. The company takes its name from the ancient Filipino tradition of Bayanihan, which signifies working together for the common good.
Bayanihan is a multi-awarded company, both nationally and internationally, and has awakened a new pride among Filipinos in their cultural heritage; added a new dimension to the country's dance tradition; and has built a rich reserve of international goodwill.
Bayanihan is the first Filipino group to perform on Broadway, and also has the distinction of being the first non-American dance company to take the stage at New York's Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, as well as the first Philippine cultural group to perform in Russia, China and throughout South America.
There will be a preview lecture at this performance. Previews are held 45 minutes prior to a performance. Previews for the Pasant Theatre are located in the Christman Lounge.
Tickets can be purchased at the Auto-Owners Ticket Office at Wharton Center, via the Wharton Center website or by calling (800) WHARTON.
