Staff profiles: Jessica Albright

Jessica Albright said she fulfilled her dream when she became education coordinator at the Michigan 4-H Children’s Garden.

It was a dream that began in middle school, when she first visited the garden with her mother. Albright was mesmerized by watching the interns pull weeds. Inspired by that event, when Albright came to MSU, she became an intern at the Children’s Garden. And just when she was about to graduate, the final puzzle piece was in place: The job opened for her current position.

“It was like a miracle, a dream come true, to be able to work here at the Children’s Garden,” Albright said.

As education coordinator, her main responsibility is to set up school field trips at the Children’s Garden.  In addition to the outdoor gardens, Albright also works in the indoor garden, which is open year round and is home to the butterfly house.

But it’s not so much the plants and butterflies that excite Albright; it’s the interaction with the children.

“I think the kids, you know, they’ll come [to the Children’s Garden] and they know about college almost,” she said. “A place like the Children’s Garden really opens that up to them, and opens them up to MSU. When they get to come and they get to do experiment s and different science, they can actually see themselves here, which is really cool for me.”
