New MSU lecture series looks at economic, social and political impact of information and communication technologies

On Jan. 30, Michigan State University’s College of Communication Arts and Sciences will host, “Where Next for Information and Communication Technologies for International Development?” The lecture will begin at noon in the Deeb Room (room 191) of the Communication Arts and Sciences Building.

The Department of Telecommunication, Information Studies and Media created the series as part of its new teaching and research emphasis on the role of information and communication technologies in facilitating positive economic, social and political change.

The inaugural speaker, Richard Heeks, is a professor of development informatics in the Institute for Development Policy and Management at the University of Manchester, located in the United Kingdom. He is one of the world's pre-eminent and most highly-cited academics in the emerging sub-discipline of information and communication technology for development.

All hour-long talks are open to the public and will be held in the Deeb Room. The series will run through April 1.
