New MSU doctors join mid-Michigan health care community

EAST LANSING, Mich. — A general surgeon and a urologist are joining the mid-Michigan physician work force and Michigan State University community.

Urologist Damon Davis, who will serve on the medical staffs of both Ingham Regional Medical Center and Sparrow Hospital, joins the College of Osteopathic Medicine's Department of Osteopathic Surgical Specialties. He is appointed as an assistant professor to the Division of Urology.

Davis will be providing a full range of urological care, including surgical treatments of kidney stones, urologic cancers, urinary incontinence, sexual dysfunction and vasectomy. He has extensive experience with minimally invasive surgery of the prostate, kidney and bladder, including urological cancers.

General surgeon Craig Gudakunst, with more than 20 years experience, specializes in laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures and will serve on the medical staff at Ingham Regional Medical Center.

Gudakunst, who has extensive experience in general surgery for adults and children 5 years and older, also is an assistant professor in the College of Osteopathic Medicine's Department of Osteopathic Surgical Specialties. While practicing in Dayton, Ohio, he trained surgical residents at Grandview Medical Center and served as a laboratory trainer for Wright State Medical School.

"The Department of Osteopathic Surgical Specialties and the College of Osteopathic Medicine are very fortunate to welcome Drs. Davis and Gudakunst as part of our growing medical community at MSU," said Shirley A. Harding, chairperson of the department and an associate professor. "Their medical and educational expertise will greatly enhance the presence of the college within the Lansing community and the college's statewide campus system.

"Both physicians will help the college fully prepare physicians to respond to public needs in a dynamic health environment."
