Holden Hall celebrates renovation with reception and tours

An event will be held to celebrate the completion of Holden Hall’s renovation and new urban look and amenities from 2 to 6 p.m. April 24.

Event attendees will have the opportunity to take tours of the renovated facility, play state-of-the-art games at Holden’s new game room, “The Outlet,” and listen to a live remote broadcast by MSU’s Impact 89FM.

Built in 1967, Holden Hall began a renovation project in May 2008. The first phase of construction was recently completed and phase two will be finished during the summer.

The hall’s main floor spaces were reprogrammed, with the center corridor transformed into a common area complete with open, painted ceilings, one central reception desk and a student gathering space. The Outlet was created and includes a Wii, an Xbox and a Playstation3 hooked up to flat-screen TVs. In addition, a community kitchen, dining space and remodeled Sparty’s convenience store were all completed as part of the project.

The main floor now houses one high-tech classroom, four traditional classrooms and a high-tech conference room for studying or group meetings. Student rooms were also remodeled with energy-efficient light fixtures and new furniture and paint.
