East Lansing Art Festival to take place May 16-17

The city of East Lansing will kick off its 2009 festival season with the 46th Annual East Lansing Art Festival. This year’s festival take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 16 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 17.

The highly renowned East Lansing Art Festival is a highlight of spring in mid Michigan. Featuring 230 artist exhibitors from across North America, the event draws an estimated 70,000 to 80,000 visitors to the region on an annual basis. In addition to a showcase of the quality fine art and craft in the nation, the East Lansing Art Festival features an Emerging Artist Program, live music performances on two outdoor stages, free arts activities for children and families and an international-style food court.

Hands-on children's activities will be hosted by area businesses and organizations, including Michigan State University's Kresge Art Museum. Creative Kids, hosted by the Kresge Art Museum, will take place 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 16. The Kresge booth will be located in the children's area at the art fair where children can decorate masks and crowns for free.

The art festival kicks off a season of summer events in East Lansing. The MSU Museum's Great Lakes Folk Festival will be held in downtown East Lansing Aug. 7-9.
