Consul general to visit MSU

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Making his second visit to an American university on Nov. 6, the consul general of the People's Republic of China will speak to Michigan State University students about the trade relationship between China and the United States.

An international trade expert, Ping Huang, head of the Chinese consulate in Chicago, will engage students in discussion about the economic exchange between the two countries. The presentation will take place at 10:30 a.m. in room N100 of the Business College Complex.

The Chicago consulate covers nine states in the Midwest, including Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Colorado, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

While at MSU, Huang will also meet with MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon and other university officials.

"It is an honor that we can bring Ping Huang to campus to enrich the MSU community as a whole, but especially the Chinese community," said Chaung Pei, president of the Chinese Undergraduate Student Association, which is sponsoring the visit. "We feel we are being cared for by the consul general, who can represent our nation since we are away from our home."

Huang has served as consul general of the Chinese Embassy to Canada and vice mayor of the city of Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, China.
