EAST LANSING, Mich. — Phase II of the Farm Lane Underpass project on the campus of Michigan State University is officially under way this week with the closure of Farm Lane.
As of March 26, Farm Lane will be closed to pedestrians, bikers and vehicles from the commuter lot (Lot 89) Capital Area Transportation Authority bus entrance north to Trowbridge Road.
A small section of Farm Lane, from Mt. Hope Road to the commuter lot (Lot 89), will remain open until the end of spring semester, May 4, to allow both CATA and vehicular access to the commuter lot. This lot also is accessible off Mount Hope Road.
Commuter lot users walking and biking to campus can go through the Ag Expo site (northwest of Lot 89) to Harrison Road north to campus. CATA bus routes also have been revised to accommodate the project.
The Farm Lane and Service Road intersection will close as of Friday, March 28. Service Road will be closed from the Laundry Building parking lot (Lot 88) on the west to the Lewis Landscape Arboretum parking lot (Lot 101) on the east.
Detour routes will be posted, using the following roads in and around campus: Harrison Road, Mount Hope Road, Hagadorn Road, Wilson Road, Bogue Street, Red Cedar Road, Trowbridge Road and Shaw Lane.
Farm Lane from Trowbridge Road to Wilson Road will remain open until mid- to late- June 2008, and then close until August 2009. Farm Lane and the affected stretch of Service Road will reopen in summer 2009.

The project is a joint partnership between the Michigan Department of Transportation and MSU. Officials are working with CATA to minimize bus service disruptions.
“Construction Junction” public information sessions are offered monthly. They occur at 8:30 a.m. the third Thursday, in Room B104 of Wells Hall. Farm Lane is on the agenda every month. The next meeting is April 10.
