EAST LANSING, Mich. — In today’s fast-paced society where stress levels are at an all-time high, what better time to take an evening meditation course offered by the Michigan State University Alumni Association’s Evening College?
The “How to Meditate for Stress Reduction, Good Health, and Higher Awareness” course teaches techniques which get to the root cause of stress with a focus on achieving deep inner peace. This personal enrichment course is one of many offered during the 2007 spring session of MSU’s noncredit Evening College.
Evening College, which has served the East Lansing and surrounding communities for 56 years, is expanding its boundaries by offering courses for West Michigan area residents. Courses will be held in the Kent County Extension Building, 775 Ball, N.E., in Grand Rapids.
The Grand Rapids Evening College offers the following courses: “Business Etiquette,” “Diminutive Destinations: Europe’s Smaller Countries,” “E-mail and Information Overload: Strategies for Taming the Beast!,” “Know Yourself: Achieve Your Vision” and “Medieval Art of the Book: Illuminated Manuscripts.”
The diverse list of new MSU courses offers something for everyone: “Consumer Savvy: Secrets of Company and Product Research,” “International Cuisines: Caribbean, Mexican, and Eastern European,” “Quilting: Trapunto and Hand Stippling,” “Art History: The Legacy of Pompeii,” “Spanish Colonial Missions of the American Southwest,” “America’s Changing Perspective on Terrorism,” “The Engaged Patient: Getting More From Your Doctor,” “Know Yourself: Achieve Your Vision” and “Women in the Age of Jackson.”
New weekend courses include: “Basics of Bike Maintenance,” “Basic Bike Tune-up,” “Horse Management Practices: Up Close and Personal at MSU!” and “MSU Museum Treasures.”
Evening College’s community outreach program extends into a new East Lansing area location: The Marquette, a retirement community facility, will be the site for the course “International Issues: Speaker Series,” open to the residents and their families.
Courses offered at The Marquette and at the Burcham Hills retirement community also are open to the public.
Those interested in taking courses from the comfort of their homes may do so with online courses such as a new course “Healthy Living,” or “Gardens of England: Exotic Cornwall,” “Gardens of England: Traditional Countryside” and “Homeland and Travel Security.”
Registration for spring courses is under way, and continues throughout the semester. Courses begin the week of Feb. 12 with new offerings every week.
Evening College is a program of the MSU Alumni Association. Evening College provides a diverse selection of personal enrichment courses for adults including MSU alumni, faculty, staff, students and community members. All adults are welcome.
