EAST LANSING, Mich. � The Michigan State University Board of Trustees today re-elected David Porteous to a second two-year term as board chairman.
Porteous, who has served on the board since 1998 and as chairman since 2002, was re-elected by a unanimous vote. The board also named Joel Ferguson vice chairman, also for a second two-year term.
Porteous, of Reed City, who graduated cum laude from MSU in 1974, said it was a privilege to again serve as chairman of the board.
�This is a time of great momentum for our university and I�m honored to be re-elected chairman,� Porteous said. �Over the next two years we face many challenges and opportunities. I�m looking forward to working with my colleagues on the board and the administration to assure that MSU remains responsive to the needs of our students and all of the people we serve.�
Porteous, an attorney, has been in private practice since 1978, specializing in corporate and municipal law and governmental relations. He graduated with distinction from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing in 1977, studied international law at Oxford University in England and completed the Russian Language Program at Yale University.
Ferguson, of Lansing, was initially elected in 1986 to an eight-year term on the board and was elected again to serve eight-year terms in 1996 and 2004. He co-founded F&S Development Co.; co-founded and served as president and owner of WLAJ-TV, Channel 53, an ABC affiliate in Lansing; and has organized several banks, including Capitol National Bank, the only locally owned bank in Lansing.
