EAST LANSING, Mich. – Vincent Latham, a senior at DeWitt High School, is the winner of the 13th annual Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center holiday card contest.
Latham, son of Shandra Harrold, is originally from Brooklyn, N.Y. He created a holiday card illustrating a house decorated for the holidays with Spartan emblems and symbols.
“I wanted to combine different aspects of Michigan State as well as the Christmas holiday,” Latham said. “My inspiration began with my aunt’s Michigan State blanket she has hanging in the house, and from there I just went with the pen.”
Latham will return to Brooklyn following his high school graduation in 2006. He transferred to DeWitt for the year. He has been enrolled in four art classes this semester because all of his required classes have been completed. He plans on attending the Fashion Institute of Technology after his graduation.
“Winning this contest was an honor. It helps add to my profile and it will help improve my resume,” Latham said.
Music is also one of his hobbies. He spends much of his free time producing music, as well as playing basketball. Latham has already created his own music and clothing design company, Laconik’s Production Team.
Each year the Kellogg Center asks one area high school to have students submit entries for the competition. Kellogg Center staff members pick the annual winner.
“We look for a way to do outreach with the community,” said Joel Heberlein, general manager of the Kellogg Center. “There is so much gratification from the community and it is a great way to explore all of the local talent.”
This year the holiday cards will be sent out to 2,500 people, including guests, clients and business associates.
