EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State University's North American Indian Student Organization (NAISO) will host the 20th annual Pow-wow of Love, April 12-13, at the Jack Breslin Student Events Center.

Grand entries, which showcase traditional American Indian culture and costumes, will be held at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, and at noon on Sunday, April 13.

"At last year's powwow, held in February of 2002, we had approximately 3,500 participants and spectators, which was a rather large increase from previous years," said Bryan Newland of the Bay Mills Indian Community, a senior majoring in social relations in the James Madison College and NAISO co-president.

"This year, we fully expect the growth trend to continue in terms of public attendance. Also the powwow has moved into the MSU Breslin Center, which offers us a more high-profile location to attract more MSU students and other visitors."

In addition, the powwow will feature four contests, including a big-bones drum contest with a top prize of $500; a traditional-dance contest with different age categories with a top prize of $400; smoke-dance contests for men and women; and a hand-drum contest with a top prize of $300.

Tickets, which will be sold at the gate, are $10 for adults, $5 for students and $25 per family. For more information, visit www.msu.edu/~naiso/powwow
