Coach who inspired “Remember the Titans” to speak at MSU-sponsored career fair

Herman Boone, the high school football coach who was the inspiration for the film "Remember the Titans," will be in the Lansing area Thursday, May 15, taking part in a Michigan State University-sponsored career fair.

Boone will speak at 8:45 a.m. as part of a school assembly in Lansing Eastern High School's Don Johnson Field House. He also will take part in the career fair, which will be held in the school's small gymnasium.

Boone will be available for interviews following the 8:45 a.m. assembly.

In 1971, Boone, the head coach of the newly integrated T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Va., was able to overcome explosive racial tensions to win the state high school football championship.

His story was documented in the Disney film, "Remember the Titans," which starred Denzel Washington as Boone.

The career fair is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will offer a number of photo opportunities. For example, veterinarians from MSU's College of Veterinary Medicine will demonstrate how to do a physical exam on a dog, and physicians from MSU's College of Osteopathic Medicine will offer demonstrations of osteopathic manipulative medicine.
