One Book, One Community offers free screening of Truffaut's "Fahrenheit 451"

EAST LANSING, Mich. - A gala screening of Francois Truffaut's 1966 film adaptation of "Fahrenheit 451" headlines this week's "One Book, One Community" events.

The film will be shown on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center.

Admission is free.

It will be followed by a brief "street theatre" performance by the MSU Department of Theatre that is based on the film's themes.

A panel discussion of the film, with audience questions, will follow at 9 p.m.

The discussion will be moderated by Patrick O'Donnell (chairperson, MSU Department of English) and will feature Doug Noverr (professor, MSU Department of American Thought and Language), Robin Swartz (editor and film critic for the "What's On" section of the Lansing State Journal), and Gary Hoppenstand (professor, MSU Department of American Thought and Language).

This event is hosted by the East Lansing Film Society and the East Lansing High School Film Club.

The "One Book, One Community" initiative is encouraging the Michigan State University and East Lansing communities to read Ray Bradbury's science fiction masterpiece Fahrenheit 451 between Oct. 7 and Nov. 15 and to come together to discuss it in a variety of settings.
