EAST LANSING, Mich. - The ninth annual Michigan State University-Penn State Blood Challenge, "Defending Our Title, Defending the Blood Supply," will run through Monday, Nov. 18, at various locations on the MSU campus.

The annual competition between MSU and Penn State was created when Penn State joined the Big Ten because both schools have similar student populations.

"It's a good way to have the collective MSU community make an impact," said David Bosman, a political theory senior from Livonia and blood drive challenge chairperson. "We are participating in this competition because the MSU community is committed to helping the local Red Cross collect blood to save lives."

Last year, MSU accumulated 1,548 pints of blood, beating the Nittany Lions for the third time in the eight-year history of the blood drive competition. "This year we are lacking donors," said Bosman. "If we are going to beat Penn State and fully support the area Red Cross we need students, faulty, staff and everyone in the local community to come out and donate."

ASMSU, Residence Halls Association, Capital Area Transportation Authority and Case Hall student government sponsors the "Defending Our Title, Defending the Blood Supply," blood drive challenge.

To make an appointment to donate, please e-mail David Bosman at bosmand@usa.redcross.org. For more information on the annual MSU-Penn State blood drive, call (800) GIVE-LIFE.
