EAST LANSING, Mich. - Senior Adam L. Wright is the student convocation speaker for Michigan State University's graduating class of 2001.
Wright was chosen by the Senior Class Council in late March after presenting his speech. The undergraduate convocation will be held at the Breslin Center at 1 p.m. Friday, May 4.
"I plan to speak on my experiences here at MSU, from the classes I took to the people I met along the way," Wright said. "Graduations are always interesting because they are a culmination and also a beginning."
The son of Barry Wright of Grand Ledge and Lorraine LeFerriere of Eaton Rapids, Wright graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 1996. He will earn his degree from MSU in political theory from James Madison College.
While at MSU, Wright has been a member of the Honors College and was a research assistant for Professor Ken Waltzer. He served as co-director for the Community Service Network for three years, won the Truman Scholarship in 1999 and was a state finalist for a Rhodes Scholarship in 2000.
In his career field, Wright worked as communication director for the Diane Byrum election campaign and did government advocacy work for Wiener Associates law practice.
After graduation Wright plans to attend graduate school at Harvard, where he has been accepted, to obtain a law degree. He said he hopes to become a prosecuting attorney, judge or run for a government office in Michigan after graduate school.
"I am keeping the options open to where I can make the most difference and best serve my community," Wright said. "I view this speech as my last opportunity to address the MSU community and express my gratitude for all I have been given."
