EAST LANSING, Mich. - Unless they're driving floats, motorists may want to know how to get around Michigan State University's 2001 Homecoming Parade.
The following traffic advisory will help motorists avoid traffic backups or find a parking spot during the Michigan State University Homecoming "Spartan Pride Worldwide" Parade on Friday, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m.
Grand River Avenue between Abbott Road and Bogue Street will be closed from 5:45 to 7 p.m.
Bailey Street will close from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m.
Abbott Road between Burcham Drive and Whitehills Drive will be closed at 4 p.m.
All other road closings and detours will be in effect Friday, Oct. 12, from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
DOWNTOWN EAST LANSING ROAD CLOSINGS
EASTBOUND TRAFFIC
- Michigan Avenue eastbound at Harrison Road
- Michigan Avenue eastbound at Delta Street
- Grand River Avenue eastbound at Harrison Road
- Grand River Avenue eastbound at Delta Street
WESTBOUND TRAFFIC
- Grand River Avenue westbound at Hagadorn Road
- Grand River Avenue westbound at Bogue Street
GENERAL ROAD CLOSINGS INFORMATION
- All roads southbound off of Albert Avenue between Kedzie Street and Abbott Road will be closed.
- The north- and southbound lanes of Abbott Road from Grand River Avenue to Whitehills Drive will be closed.
- All roads leading to Abbott Road, including Library Road, Burcham Road, Centerlawn Avenue and Northlawn Avenue, will be closed.
- All roads on MSU's campus leading north to Grand River Avenue will be closed.
- The southbound lanes of Bogue Street to Shaw Lane will be closed during the parade.
RECOMMENDED TRAFFIC DETOURS
The following detours will help motorists avoid traffic delays related to the parade. Motorists are advised to avoid using Grand River Avenue.
WESTBOUND GRAND RIVER AVENUE TRAFFIC WILL BE DETOURED TO:
- Hagadorn Road northbound to Saginaw Street
OR - Hagadorn Road southbound to Mt. Hope Road
EASTBOUND MICHIGAN AVENUE TRAFFIC WILL BE DETOURED TO:
- Harrison Road northbound to Saginaw Street
OR - Harrison Road southbound to Mt. Hope Road
EASTBOUND GRAND RIVER AVENUE TRAFFIC WILL BE DETOURED TO:
- Harrison Road northbound to Saginaw Street
OR - Harrison Road southbound to Mt. Hope Road
Traffic traveling east or west can avoid Grand River Avenue by taking Mt. Hope Road, Saginaw Street, Lake Lansing Road or I-96.
THE CITY OF EAST LANSING WILL PROVIDE FREE PARKING AT CITY RAMPS AND LOTS.
PARKING SUGGESTIONS FOR OTHER CAMPUS EVENTS FRIDAY, OCT. 12
- Enter campus from the south to avoid Grand River Avenue traffic.
- Park at the southern commuter lots near the MSU Clinical Center and at Farm Lane and Mt. Hope Road and use the CATA bus to get to Munn Ice Arena or the Wharton Center.
- Park at Meridian Mall or Frandor Mall and use the CATA bus system to get to campus.
