EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State University's Evening College courses offer the opportunity to learn about a variety of subjects, from traveling to the North Pole to exploring family relationships.
Evening College presents a variety of quality non-credit evening and weekend classes for all adults in the greater Lansing and central Michigan area. More than 1,000 adults register for the courses each semester.
Students will have the opportunity to join glassblowing artist Jerry Catania in one of the college's new courses, "The Art of Glassblowing." Participants will study the ancient and modern methods of glassblowing as well as watch a demonstration by Catania in his glass studio in Glenn, located 20 miles southwest of Holland.
Also planned for the fall are: "Backstage at the Wharton Center," "Around the World with Chocolate," "Brush Up and Brunch," "Investment Savvy: Tips from The Wall Street Journal," "Stretch, Strengthen, and Tone" and "Genealogy Studies."
A "Mini Medical School" will feature faculty from the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine, who will provide information on basic anatomy, pathology and physiology, including treatment options for specific disorders and tips for preventing disease and injury.
On-line classes include "Floral Design" and "Gardens of England: Traditional Countryside," which may be taken between Oct. 1 and Oct. 31, and "Gardens of England: Exotic Cornwall," offered between Nov. 1 and Nov. 30.
Courses begin Sept. 24. Walk-in registration hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays in 8 Kellogg Center. Students may register up until the class begins, or until it is filled to capacity. Special evening registration will be held from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 24-27. Registration also may be completed by mail, phone and fax or via the Web.
Evening College is a program of Alumni Lifelong Education, a division of the MSU Alumni Association. All adults are welcome to register and do not have to be an MSU graduate to enroll in non-credit courses. MSU Alumni Association members with up-to-date paid memberships receive discounts on Evening College courses.
