EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame seeks entries for its Martha Rayne Award for Media History Research, which it presents annually for original research about print and broadcast journalism.

"This allows the Hall of Fame to highlight men, women and organizations for substantial contributions to Michigan journalism," said Stephen Lacy, chairperson of the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame and director of the Michigan State University School of Journalism.

"The competition is open to everyone," Lacy added. "Amateur and professional historians along with university faculty and students and high school faculty and students are encouraged to enter."

The winner receives a trophy and $500. Up to two honorable mention certificate winners, without a cash award, may be selected.

A three-member committee will evaluate the entries, which must be received by Jan. 4, 2002. Four copies of each entry should be mailed to: Martha Rayne Award for Media History Research, School of Journalism, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI 48824-1212. Entries should have been written or published during 1999 or 2000.

The Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame is co-sponsored by the Detroit and mid-Michigan chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists; the Detroit chapters of the Asian American Journalists Association, National Association of Black Journalists and Women in Communications; the Michigan Association of Broadcasters; the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association; the Michigan Press Association; Michigan Press Women; the State Bar of Michigan; and the journalism programs at Central Michigan University, Michigan State University and Wayne State University.
