Study abroad fair helps students plan international experience

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State University students who want to learn more about how to experience the world while earning academic credit, should plan to attend the MSU Spring 2000 Study Abroad Fair on Wednesday, Feb. 2.

This event, featuring most of the university's more than 145 study abroad programs, will take place from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the second floor of the MSU Union's Parlors and Gold Rooms A and B.

"The Study Abroad Fair puts everything at students' fingertips," said Michael J. Vande Berg, director of MSU's Office of Study Abroad. "By showcasing the many study abroad opportunities available through MSU, we can help students begin planning for their study abroad experience."

Students can talk with faculty program leaders or meet other students who recently studied abroad. Academic advisers will be available to discuss program requirements, financial aid personnel will be on hand to answer funding questions and representatives from the Olin Travel Clinic will provide health and safety information.

Those attending the fair can view artifacts, photos, slides and videos from around the world. There also will be T-shirt giveaways and a raffle for $50 gift certificates from the MSU Bookstore.

"There's no time like the present for students who are considering study abroad in the near future," said Vande Berg. "March 3 is the application cutoff date for summer, fall and academic year programs."

Offering students more than 140 programs in 51 countries, the MSU study abroad program is one of the largest and most prestigious in the United States. As a result of the benefits of international learning opportunities, study abroad is quickly becoming a common component of students' academic careers.
