EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State University's Evening College courses offer opportunities to broaden horizons, expand knowledge of the world and local community and keep current on national events.
Evening College offers a variety of quality non-credit evening and weekend courses for adults in the greater Lansing and central Michigan area. More than 1,000 adults register for the courses each semester.
New courses which will take folks around the world and home again include "Album Art: A Window on World Cultures," "India's Eternal Wisdom: The Crest Jewel of Discrimination," "Buddhist Images in Asian Art" and "Gilding the Lion: The Art and Architecture of Michigan's Capitol." The "Around the World with Santa Claus" course will include discussions on the origin of Santa Claus and the collection and care of Christmas ornaments.
Also planned for the fall are courses on the American presidential election, Jewish American autobiography, "Jim Cash: The Secrets of His Success," "Backstage at the Wharton Center" with Arlo Guthrie and the MSU Symphony Orchestra and "An MSU Treasure: The W.J. Beal Botanical Gardens."
A "Mini Medical School" class will feature faculty from MSU's College of Osteopathic Medicine, who will present information on the hearts, minds and bodies of today, including tips to prevent injuries, holistic concerns, health of mind, anatomy and physiology.
On-line courses include an "English Spring Garden Tour," which may be taken between Nov. 1 and 30, and "Floral Design," offered between Oct. 1 and Oct. 31.
Registration begins Wednesday, Aug. 30, and courses begin Sept. 25. Walk-in registration hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays in 8 Kellogg Center. Special evening registration will be held from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 25-28. Registration also may be completed by mail, phone, fax or via the Web.
Evening College is a program of Alumni Lifelong Education, a division of the MSU Alumni Association. All adults are welcome to register and do not have to be an MSU graduate to enroll in the non-credit courses. MSU Alumni Association members with up-to-date paid memberships receive discounts on Evening College courses.
