EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State University students in Holmes Hall are taking anti-hate campaign messages to heart. A screening of "Not in Our Town II" will attempt to raise consciousness of hate issues across America.
The video screening will be held at 9 p.m., Nov. 7-8 in C 106 Holmes Hall.
Holmes' "Not in Our Hall" program is based on a PBS special called "Not in Our Town." This special stems from the story of how Billings, Mont., residents rallied around victims of hate crimes in Billings and took a stand that these actions were unacceptable in their town. Across the nation, other communities have implemented similar anti-hate programs.
The week of Nov. 13-17, students will be asked to sign pledge cards stating they will take a stand against hateful and demeaning acts against others and will not allow other residents in the hall to do so. Pledged students will receive a "Not in Our Hall" button as a sign they will not stand for this behavior in their home.
The Holmes Hall Residence Life staff is sponsoring the showing of the video. For more information contact Abby Nelson, (517) 353-6035, or Kent Workman, 353-6480.
