Marta Bagratuni: Pieces of the World

Aug. 9, 2013

Graduate student Marta Bagratuni has been performing as a musician since she was 5 years old. As a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral musician and singer, Marta has been concertizing from East Lansing to Johannesburg, South Africa.

She made her solo recital debut at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall in a performance sponsored by Musical Armenia in 2012. This July, Marta released her debut classical-music album, "Pieces of the World." Pieces of the World is a compilation of Marta's travels and experiences playing more than 300 years worth of classical music written for the cello. The CD ends with a world-premiere recording of a piece written by Vache Sharafyan.

As a graduate assistant at MSU, Marta won the Honor's Concerto Competition in 2011, led MSU Symphony's cello section as principal cellist, participated in local, national and international recitals, taught a private cello studio of 15 students and performed at local outreach events such as the Greater Lansing Community Concert Series. Marta is a 2013 Arts Council of Greater Lansing Emerging Artist.
