Immigration bill focus of public debate, community discussion

As part of the ongoing Project 60/50, the MSU Debate team will argue whether or not Congress should pass the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act during a free event on Tuesday, March 3.

The event is open to the public and will be held from 6-8 p.m. in room 112 of Brody Hall. The first hour will cover the topic through a formal debate and the second hour will consist of a panel discussion with representatives from Michigan United, ACTION of Greater Lansing and The Julian Samora Research Institute.

“This is a great opportunity for the debate team to discuss an important issue – the DREAM Act – with other experts in the field,” said Carly Watson, project/events coordinator for MSU Debate. “We’re excited to show both sides of the issue and open up space for in-depth dialogue with MSU students and the larger community.”

The event is co-sponsored by the MSU Debate team and Office for Inclusion & Intercultural Initiatives.

“Project 60/50 strives to create spaces for community members to discuss modern day civil/human rights and social justice issues,” said Ignacio Andrade III, community outreach coordinator and student liaison for the Office for Inclusion & Intercultural Initiatives. “We invite everyone to join this community conversation.”

The MSU Debate team is a part of the Honors College.
