In less than a week, the Michigan State University campus will come to life as thousands of new and returning students flock back to campus for the start of the 2014 fall semester.
First-year students will begin moving onto campus at 8 a.m. Sunday, while returning students move in Monday in preparation for Wednesday’s start of classes.
The 2014 fall semester incoming freshman class is expected to total about 7,800 students.
In addition, MSU’s Honors College will welcome about 600 freshmen this year – the largest class in its 58-year history.
This fall, two residence halls that had shut down for renovations throughout the last year will be re-open – Landon, in the North Neighborhood, and Butterfield, which is part of the Brody Neighborhood.
In addition, a new, state-of-the-art dining facility – Heritage Commons – will be opening for business in Landon Hall.
Also available this fall is the recently opened media center located in the MSU Union. Because students are increasingly asked to produce videos, graphics and other visuals for classes, the center will provide them the tools to do so, including Photo Shop access, In-Design and even a room with a green screen for the production of videos.
Housing more than 14,500 students, MSU has one of the largest on-campus residence hall systems in the country.

Fall Convocation and One Book, One Community presentation: 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, Breslin Center.
Fill the Bus Service Project: Sunday through Friday.
Fall Welcome Spartan Spectacular: 4 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Munn Field.

Most roads, sidewalks and pathways will be open for move-in days, with the exception of the area surrounding MSU’s Facility for Rare Isotope Beams project. That project maintains ongoing pedestrian detours around the construction site and also has lane restrictions on Wilson Road.
