MSU SpartanFit looks to keep students fit and much more

A new and improved program, formerly known as LIFE: Rx, is offering students not only a way to improve their fitness level, but help students excel in other areas of their life.

SPARTANfit a program that’s part of MSU’s Healthy Campus Initiative, aims to keep students feeling great and on top of their game.

“We believe that regular physical activity is an essential component of a students overall wellness, quality of life and academic support,” said SPARTANfit coordinator Kristin Traskie. “But it doesn’t necessarily have to be just about fitness for everyone. It could also be about other things in life like focusing on academics, stress, mental health and nutrition too.”

Traskie said the program is striving to motivate and empower students to achieve the overall wellness that they would like by offering some new services such as wellness coaching. This will give students an opportunity to sit down with a certified professional and identify things that they would like to work on.

“We try to identify some strengths that students have and some barriers they’re facing, and then we talk and work on developing strategies or goals to overcome those,” said Traskie.

Traskie appreciates the partnerships and collaborations with other departments on campus who have been working to help her get the word out.

“So far, the program has had several students sign up and they are already going through wellness coaching processing,” Traskie said. “We’re keeping busy.”
