Maple syrup open house to be held March 19

Visitors of all ages will have the opportunity to learn about the art of maple syrup on Maple Syrup Day from noon to 5 p.m. on March 19 at MSU’s W.K. Kellogg Experimental Forest.

Activities include a wagon ride to the sugar bush, viewing the sugar bush with a spider web of maple tubing, a visit to Maple Manor and tasting a fresh syrup sample. Children’s activities include face painting, creating tree cookie medallions and playing traditional games.

The admission fee is $1 per person. W.K. Kellogg Biological Station’s new Spartan Pure Maple Syrup will also be available for purchase.

The event is part of the fourth annual Michigan Maple Syrup Weekend, slated for three consecutive weekends during prime maple syrup tapping times. Michigan Maple Syrup Weekend events celebrate maple syrup around the state on March 19-20 in southern Michigan, March 26-27 in northern lower Michigan and April 2-3 in the Upper Peninsula.
