Hortos named interim senior associate dean in College of Osteopathic Medicine

Kari A. Hortos has been named the interim senior associate dean for the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Hortos, who received her degree from the college, is also a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists and the American Osteopathic Directors of Medical Education. She was most recently the associate dean for the osteopathic college’s Macomb University Center site.

“Dr. Hortos is an excellent administrator, an outstanding educator and a leader with a vision for the direction of our college and our profession,” said William Strampel, dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine. “I look forward to the perspective that she will bring to the role as someone who not only understands, but who can navigate the challenging landscape of osteopathic medical education.”

Hortos is board certified in internal medicine and is a certified physician nutrition specialist. She completed an internal medicine residency at Mount Clemens General Hospital and a fellowship in clinical nutrition support and metabolism at Harvard Medical School.

Hortos will continue to serve as the chief academic officer for the college’s Statewide Campus System, one of the nation’s largest post-graduate education consortia.

She succeeds Donald Sefcik, who recently became vice president of health professions at Marian University and dean of the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She assumed her new role on April 1.
