Civil Rights leader Robert Green to visit MSU

Civil Rights leader Robert Green will be on campus Jan. 19 to discuss his book, “At the Crossroads of Fear and Freedom: The Fight for Social and Educational Justice,” published by MSU Press.

Green, a friend and colleague of Martin Luther King Jr. and former education director of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, received his Ph.D. in educational psychology from MSU. He also was dean and is professor emeritus of MSU.

The book, a memoir, brings to light untold stories about major Civil Rights campaigns that helped to end voting rights violations and Jim Crow education; explains how Green has helped urban school districts improve academic achievement levels; and explains why this history should inform our choices as we attempt to reform and improve American education.

Community, staff, students and faculty will have a chance to meet with Green from 3 to 4 p.m. on the second floor the MSU Union, outside of the Mosaic Center. Then, at 4 p.m., he'll give a formal talk followed by a short Q&A session.

At 7 p.m. that evening the Historical Society of Greater Lansing is hosting a book signing with Green at the Capital Area District Library.
