Women's Resource Center to recognize inspirational women

The MSU Women's Resource Center will honor three distinguished women with the inaugural Inspirational Woman of the Year Award.

The recognition reception begins at 4 p.m. March 18 at The University Club.

The Inspirational Woman of the Year Award recognizes women who have demonstrated professional achievement, community engagement or have created a culture of empowerment. The goal of the award is to elevate and advance MSU's culture of appreciation for the courageous and empowering work of women change agents.

The award honors three women affiliated with MSU in three different categories: Professional Achievement, Community Engagement and Culture of Empowerment. The awardee in the Professional Achievement category demonstrates a unique drive and passion for her career and contributes positively to MSU's culture of excellence. The awardee in the Community Engagement category demonstrates a commitment to engaging and advancing communities and organizations at MSU and in the greater Lansing community through service/volunteerism, leadership and other involvement. Lastly, the awardee who demonstrates dedication to the advancement and empowerment of women on campus and in the community through mentoring, programs and other leadership opportunities, will be recognized in the culture of empowerment category.

The awardees are as follows:

  • Professional Achievement: Jeanne Wald, professor, Department of Mathematics
  • Community Engagement: Audrey Bentley, community outreach senior coordinator, Office for Inclusion and Intercultural Initiatives
  • Culture of Empowerment: Karin Wurst, adviser to the provost for intercultural learning and engagement, Office of the Provost
