We’re No. 1: MSU’s WKAR earns station of the year award

Michigan State University’s WKAR has earned a station-record 17 Broadcast Excellence Awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters, including the Michigan Public TV Station of the Year award.

This marks the fourth year in a row that WKAR-TV received the award.

“It's such an honor to be recognized by the MAB in this way because it understands that a station is only as strong as its partners, donors and community members,” said station manager Susi Elkins. “WKAR's biggest challenge is living up to the high standards of our dedicated viewers, to provide them with the best possible programming available.”

For television programming and audience engagement, WKAR won 12 awards, nine of which were for Best in Category.

Some of the awards were for community involvement; marketing materials and promotion; news or public affairs special; cultural programming; and others.

For radio programming, WKAR won five awards, including one Best in Category for Community Involvement for the “Neighbors in Action” series, as well as four merit awards.
