The State News wins national award

The Society of Professional Journalists honored The State News, MSU’s student newspaper, as the nation’s best daily college newspaper of 2014.

This is the first time The State News won the honor, but was a national finalist in 2007 and 2011. This award bookends a year of the Associated Collegiate Press honoring The State News as one of the nation’s best college news websites in 2014.

Editor-in-Chief Olivia Dimmer said that being recognized for all the hard work The State News staff dedicates to the publication is an honor.

"Our reporters, photographers, designers and so many others put in countless hours to ensure the campus community was provided with truthful and relevant information that contextualizes daily college life and holds institutions accountable," Dimmer said. "While none of us got into journalism for the awards, this one certainly makes the long nights and hectic days well worth it."

The State News has also won 14 ACP print Pacemaker awards, the nation’s oldest college newspaper honor.
