Symposium focuses on technology in arts and culture classrooms

The History of Art and Visual Culture Symposium, “Teaching with Tech: Practical Uses of Digital Technology in the Arts and Culture Classroom,” will showcase the work of faculty and students who are exploring the use of digital tools to rethink teaching and learning in and out of the higher education classroom.

The symposium is from 1 to 5 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Kresge Art Center.

With the lowering of financial and technological barriers to entry, instructors are finding it easier than ever to experiment with the use of electronic tools to provide educational content in new and exciting ways.

For the students presenting, the work being shown is the culmination of the capstone experience course, which focuses on the development of skills related to career planning and supplemented by a faculty-mentored research project.

For members of the faculty, this event offers an opportunity to showcase the types of student and faculty collaborations that are a frequent aspect of scholarly work in the digital humanities.

Afternoon activities at the symposium will involve introductory tours at the facilities that provided the digital resources presented in the morning sessions.
