1. Helping dogs (and humans) heal: Doctors in MSU's College of Veterinary Medicine and College of Human Medicine teamed up to perform an uncommon cleft palate surgery on a dog, using a technique that will benefir both humans and man's best friend. Watch >>

2. Life is not a solo act: I love Amy Poehler. I mean, I don’t actually know her, but what I do know about her, I love. She’s a hysterically funny comedian and actress and her Smart Girls organization that supports teen girls channeling their intelligence, imagination and curiosity is fantastic. Though I am far from being a teen girl, the Smart Girls Twitter account inspires me on a daily basis. Poehler started the organization with her best friend, Meredith Walker. The collective power of the two of them started something pretty amazing. More >>

3. Forgotten sex signals: Sending signals to the opposite sex isn’t always a trait that’s passed on to animals’ offspring, according to new research conducted at Michigan State University. Animal sex signals, communications between partners indicating health, the capacity to produce healthy offspring and more, were thought to be beneficial and passed down from generation to generation. However, in a new study appearing in Ecology and Evolution, these signals can actually adaptively disappear in descendants. More >>

Lisa Lapidus: Using physics to treat Parkinson's Disease: Developing effective treatments for neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s disease, is one of the greatest medical challenges of the 21st century. By the time patients show symptoms and go to a doctor, aggregation already has a stronghold in their brains. In the lab, however, we can see the first steps, at the very place where the drugs could be the most effective. This could be a strong model for fighting Parkinson’s and other diseases. More >>

5. MSU named 'veteran-friendly' school: Michigan State University has earned gold status in the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency’s Veteran-Friendly School program. For the 2015 rankings, 55 schools earned either bronze-, silver- or gold-level status as determined by the number of services they offer to student veterans.
