MSU, East Lansing community mark 2015 Mental Health Awareness Week

The MSU and East Lansing communities are coming together to participate in the second annual Mental Health Awareness Week this week.

Titled "Release the Stigma," events during the week will shed light on the importance of mental health, as well as the prevalence of mental health illnesses on campus. Various events, activities, and conversations will be held.

The schedule is as follows:

Monday, March 30:

  • Students will have the opportunity to take a break during their day, and relax with a nap from 1 to 3 p.m. at the MSU planetarium.
  • Relax with some exercise at the end of the day with yoga at 7 p.m. at the Breslin Center.

Tuesday, March 31:

  • Exercise at the end of the day with zumba at 7 p.m. at the Breslin Center.

Wednesday, April 1:

  • Embrace the Rain from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Erikson Kiva. This powerful event will be focused on art and testimonials of students’ experiences with mental health.
  • Relax at the end of the day with meditation at 7 p.m. at the Breslin Center.

Thursday, April 2:

  • National Alcohol Screening Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in all of the residential neighborhoods.
  • BUG theatrical play at 7:30 p.m. at the Auditorium followed by a panel discussion on mental health.

Throughout the week, students will be participating in positive affirmation events and groups will be distributing information on mental health.
