Johnny Gandelsman to play at Cook Recital Hall

Violinist Johnny Gandelsman will be performing Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin, the complete set of six works by Johann Sebastian Bach at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 14 at Cook Recital Hall.

The set consists of three sonatas in four movements and three partitas in dance-form movements.

In addition to being the son of Yuri Gandlesman, professor of viola at MSU, and Janna Gandelsman, pianist, Johnny is one of New York's busiest collaborative musicians. He is a cofounder of the Brooklyn Rider String Quartet and a member of the Silk Road Ensemble, formed by cellist Yo-Yo Ma.

The performance is free and open to the public.
