Abrams Planetarium show looks at animals in the sky

The lions, tigers and bears you see in the zoo have counterparts that roam the night sky in the form of constellations.

A one-day show at Michigan State University’s Abrams Planetarium will allow visitors to learn about the animals in the zoo and the star formations that represent them.

“Star Safari,” a collaboration with Lansing's Potter Park Zoo, is at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the planetarium, located at Farm Lane and Shaw Lane on the MSU campus.

Those attending the show will learn how to identify and learn the stories of these constellations that come from different cultures around the world and will get to visit with some of the animals from the zoo.

In addition, Abrams is presenting a show titled “Violent Universe” Fridays and Saturday’s at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 4 p.m. until the end of July.

The show provides a look at the violent forces that are at work within our universe. From exploding stars to a future encounter between the Earth and a large asteroid, the show focuses on the forces that hold the universe together and sometimes try to rip it apart.

The program is narrated by Patrick Stewart of Star Trek: The Next Generation and the X-Men films.

Admission prices for all shows are $4 for adults, $3.50 for students and senior citizens, and $3 for children age 12 and under.
