REACH Studio Art Center, MSU Community Music School unveil collaborative project for Be a Tourist in Your Own Town event

Students and teachers from REACH Studio Art Center and the MSU Community Music School have been visiting one another over the past few months, working together to inspire an interactive musical art installation.

Students ages 7-12 in the Creative Connections program at REACH have drawn upon knowledge and experience from the visits and demonstrations to create ‘musical chairs’ and a ‘music box.’ They are both works of art and hands-on, musical props.

The art will be unveiled and on display as part of the Greater Lansing Convention and Visitors Bureau’s Be a Tourist in Your Own Town event on May 31. The pieces will be at CMS from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and at REACH from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Both organizations are open 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. and on a bus route for the special day.

In addition to the art, REACH is offering clay wheel demonstrations and a community mural project. CMS is offering an instrument petting zoo and a musical make and take craft.
